Requirements
- United States Citizen
- Must be 21 years of age at time of application
- High school graduate or GED
- Have no convictions of a felony criminal violation*
- Must be of good moral character
- Possess a valid drivers license from State of Tennessee at date
of hire
- Have an Honorable discharge from the military (if applicable)
- Must submit to an in-depth background investigation
- Have uncorrected vision at least 20/100 & correctable to
20/30 & free from color blindness
- Must submit to and pass a psychological evaluation
- Must be certifiable under Minimum Standards Law (TCA 38-8-106)
* Must not have been convicted of Domestic Assault
if applying for any position
Applicants Screening Process
The Baxter Police Department's Applicant Process consist of the
following evaluations:
- An in-depth background investigation
- Must pass mandatory drug screening and physical
- Structured oral interview before the Police Hiring Board
Applicant scores will be compiled from the above evaluations which
will comprise an eligibility list that will be in descending order
from highest to lowest passing scores.
Training
Newly sworn officers will be on probation for ninety (90) days.
The State of Tennessee and the Baxter Police Department provide
all the necessary training to those candidates who qualify for employment
to the department. Included in the training will be an ten week
basic law enforcement course at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training
Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. The Baxter Police Department continues
to train and educate officers throughout their careers. The department
sends officers for advanced and/or specialized training.
